A few months ago, I decided to start my own blog. Why? Because I kept getting asked the same questions: “Why are you going back to university?” “Why are you starting over in your 40s?” “Why not just find a new job?” The curiosity from friends and colleagues showed me that my path was a bit unconventional – and I thought, maybe others could benefit if I shared my thoughts and experiences. And so, this blog was born: a place to document my fresh start and hopefully inspire others to try something new.
Starting Without Big Expectations
At the beginning, I didn’t have many expectations for this blog. Sure, I thought about the idea of maybe building a small readership and even generating a little income through affiliate links over time – but that was more of a side thought. The main goal was to share my journey and show what it’s like to start fresh after so many years in the corporate world. If I can inspire someone or offer a new perspective on the career path, then I’ve already achieved more than I expected.
Balancing Doubt and Excitement
Writing a blog also means constantly dealing with doubts. Nearly every time I publish a post, I wonder if anyone will actually care about what I’m writing or if it’s all just “for the drawer.” Yet, at the same time, there’s this thrill. Every time I hit publish, it feels a bit like Christmas. I don’t know if the blog will be successful, if it will reach or inspire anyone – but that excitement tells me that I’m on the right path. Over time, I’m learning to let go of these doubts and to trust in what I have to share.
A Learning Process in Small Steps
At first, everything was new and sometimes challenging: the technical side of blogging, finding the right keywords, organizing my thoughts. Now, some of it has become routine, but the writing process is always a learning experience where I uncover new aspects along the way. I’ve also noticed that, as time goes by, it’s easier to find topics that interest both me and (hopefully) others. Especially because I’m in a phase of change and working on new projects, there’s always something to talk about. This has allowed me to develop a structure that gives me a sense of security while leaving room for spontaneity.
What Blogging Means to Me Personally
Blogging has become more than just sharing my experiences. It’s a way to reflect on and capture my journey. Each post is like a diary entry, encouraging me to think about my decisions, challenges, and successes. This reflection helps me stay focused on my path and reminds me of what I’ve already achieved. At the same time, it gives me a chance to clarify my thoughts and, in some ways, organize them. Blogging has become a tool for personal growth, helping me learn from my experiences and make the most of them.
A Milestone: My First Comment
Recently, I reached a special milestone: I received my first comment on a blog post! This moment showed me that there are people out there actually reading what I write and caring about it. The exchange, the possibility to connect with others and hear their thoughts, gives me a sense of fulfillment. These little bits of validation show me that the effort is worth it and that my blog does reach people. Every piece of positive feedback motivates me to keep going and openly share my thoughts and experiences.
The Question of “Relevance” – and Why I Keep Going
Despite the positive feedback, the question remains: Is what I write actually relevant? I often wonder if my experiences are even of interest to anyone else. Perhaps no one really cares about my journey, and maybe one day, no one will read my posts. But I’ve decided that that’s okay. Even if my blog is only relevant to a small group of people or even just to me – it’s worth it. The blog helps me reflect on my own journey, and if others can relate to or find inspiration in it, that’s a big bonus.
My Definition of Success in Blogging
To me, success isn’t necessarily about having thousands of readers or becoming famous. Success is about connecting with people through my blog and maybe inspiring someone here and there. If I can provide someone with a new perspective or a little encouragement, then that’s already a huge success for me. Of course, it would be nice if one day it could bring in a little income – but that’s secondary. The exchange and the chance to make a positive impact are what matter most.
A Pleasant Surprise: The Variety of Topics
At first, I thought finding topics to write about would be difficult. But to my surprise, I’ve found that ideas almost come to me on their own. In a phase where I’m trying out a lot of new things and developing my projects, there’s always something to write about. Blogging has become a way to capture all of this and to share it – and to continually discover new facets of my journey.
My Advice for Anyone Thinking About Starting a Blog
If I’ve learned one thing, it’s this: Just do it! Often, doubts and worries hold us back – we wonder if we’re good enough, if our ideas are relevant, or if the effort is worth it. But once you take that first step, unexpected possibilities often open up. So, if you’re thinking about starting a blog, my advice is: Go for it! The path develops over time, and you often learn more about yourself than you ever expected.
Have a great Day
